GROWTH of One Animation, the award-winning studio behind global hit Oddbods continues apace with today’s announcement that it has hired well-known industry heavyweight and acclaimed producer John McKenna.
John joins as studio head to oversee the continued success of current productions as well as looking at the development of new multi-platform IP.
The appointment is a major achievement for the studio which has experienced an unprecedented pace of development over the last couple of years, primarily off the back of its two most successful shows, Oddbods and Insectibles.

John’s illustrious career to date has seen him set up and lead studios for some of the biggest names in feature film and TV animation, including the Walt Disney company, Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox. His film and TV production credits include Planes, Space Jam, Titan AE, Igor, and several of the DVDs in Disney’s Tinkerbell franchise.
“I have specific goals in my new role at One Animation but all will be built upon maintaining the quality of our storytelling and content, and expanding our world-class production team,” explains John.
“In this way we can preserve and enhance our exemplary track record in delivering top quality shows for broadcasters whilst responding to consumer demand for content that works across a variety of platforms.
“The team and I will also be supporting all of the revenue generating activities we undertake, for example by creating exciting and engaging material for trailers and social media to support our branded toy lines.”
John has headed animation studios making traditional 2D and CG animated feature films for over 25 years, working all around the world including in Los Angeles, London, and Mumbai.
“Having worked with some of the biggest studios in the world this role at One Animation represents the chance for me to take all the best practice I have learnt throughout my career, whilst implementing new ideas to create a thriving studio. There is a fantastic amount of real talent here at One Animation, from the creatives to the senior management team, and it’s my job to use the benefit of my experience to create an environment where this can really shine and take its place on the world stage.”
